Get to know Brynn better:
When did you start dancing and why did you keep dancing? I started dancing when I was really little, took a break, danced all through high school and didn't get really serious until college. I had some catching up to do, but I wanted to take it seriously because I need dance in my life. I love to perform!
Why did you want to become a dance instructor? It's the healthiest job a person could have, it's something I know and it's rewarding when I see students grow through the years.
Do you still dance or take dance lessons even though you are an instructor? Yes, I need to dance for myself; my body and soul need it! I also think it's very important to keep inspired and informed on the latest information/techniques/tricks/news etc. so I can be a better teacher. I like to keep up on modern and ballet classes.
What is your favorite style of dance and why? I love all styles of dance because it allows you to express yourself in different ways that you may not be able to do any other way. I do however, love modern dance overall because I love to fuse different styles and techniques of dance to create my own style.
What is the hardest part about dance to you and why? Never being satisfied. You feel you can always dance or choreograph something better then you had planned.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of the studio or besides teaching dance? I love to cook, it takes my mind off of everything. I love to go to the beach, even for just a day to get away or take drives to explore new places. I love my '64 Chevy. My family has always been into classic rides and I am grateful to have people in my family that help me fix it up. I drove it all through high school and some through college - now, it's a fun driver in the summer time. It's not a show truck yet but maybe someday. Right now it is just primer black but I have special plans to get a sweet paint job in the future. I know exactly what it's going to look like but I have to keep that a secret for now. : )
What is your favorite dance quote and why? "The Truest expression of a people is in its dance and in its music. Bodies never lie". ~ Agnes de Mille. I love this quote because people like myself don't always or just can't express themselves verbally how they would like to; therefore, I dance to let out my expressions.
Random tidbits: A few years ago, I tried out for "So You Think You Can Dance". It was an amazing experience! I was on stage with ten other amazing dancers and the judges would point at you when it was your turn: it was nerve wracking! After being asked back for a second round - my nerves got the best of me. All the dancers were so supportive of each other and there was so much talent to see - you can really learn from just watching others.
