Miles Harrop, Instructor
He teaches: Boys HipHop
When did you start dancing and why did you keep dancing? I first found out about dance in the 8th grade when one of my friends, Eric, told me about hip hop at a school dance. I didn't start actually practicing and taking dance seriosly until the last day of 8th grade. Now I never stop practicing because it gives me a chance to show who I am and to express myself.
Why did you want to become a dance instructor? I wanted to become a dance instructor because I love dance and freestyle. I want to show the students how to express themselves, even though I personally have only been dancing for 2 years.
Do you still dance or take dance lessons even though you are an instructor? Yes, I take a hip hop class, a tap class, and the senior showstoppers. I also practice every day almost all day; I always want to improve so I never stop dancing outside of the studio.
What is your favorite style of dance and why? My favorite general style to take is hip hop. Specifically, my all-time favorite style, which is a branch off hip hop, is called animation. I love the style of animation because it allows you to explore your imagination. In doing this type of dance, you try to make yourself look as precise and robotic as possible.
What is the hardest part about dance to you and why? The hardest part about dance to me is trying to come up with new and original moves aside from doing moves that I have learned from other dancers.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of the studio or besides teaching dance? Outside of teaching dance, I continue to dance. I practice, and I record and make dance videos on my YouTube channel. I never stop dancing outside of the studio. I also love to hang out with my family and go camping.
What is your favorite dance quote? "Dance like no one is watching."
