March Monthly Memo

Raising Awareness

Our mission at SDA is Empowering Students and Community Through Dance and this month our focus is on Raising Awareness! Part of a strong community is the events, programs, and resources available to the people. The trick is making sure everyone knows what’s locally available.

Watch for our Raising Awareness worksheet this month. Have your dancer complete the worksheet and bring it to the office for a chance to pick a prize out of our treasure box!

Upcoming Fundraiser

We have our Spring Fundraiser & Silent Auction coming up on Saturday, April 13th at 6:30pm at Newberg High School. Tickets are for sale in the SDA office! You can read more about the event here.

We are still looking for Silent Auction items for this event. Do you have a business that could donate an item, certificate, or service to add to the auction? Email hello@sherwooddance.com to help!

Celebrating One of Our Own

Miss Ella, one of our Jr. Instructors, was recipient of the Outstanding Youth Award during the Spotlight on Sherwood Annual Dinner. Ella was nominated by her leadership advisor, Ms. Rarick, for the incredible work she’s been doing on student council:

  • Ella partnered with Sherwood 4 Kids Sake to help receive, organize, and personally deliver gifts for 75 local kids.

  • Ella co-led cancer awareness week at SHS and found a local elementary school student undergoing cancer treatments. Ella inspired the SHS community to rally around this young child and raise funds for their medical treatments and needs.

  • Ella volunteers at the SHARE center and the SHS Red Cross blood drives.

There’s even more to the list of what Ella has achieved this year, but perhaps most incredible to me - Ella has decided to partner with 5th grade leadership students at each elementary school in Sherwood to empower them to develop projects to improve their schools. She is empowering others!

Equipped with her compassion, kindness, creativity, and endless passion, Ella is a true embodiment of our SDA mission and values. It is clear to me why she has won this award!

Throwback Week: 18th-23rd
Wear your favorite style of apparel from any previous decade!  Just make sure your clothing is still dance class appropriate.  I personally hope to see a lot of leg warmers and headbands :)

Spring Break: 25th-30th
The Studio is closed for Spring Break. Looking for something to do during the break? Watch for news about a Spring Break Camp!

All my best,
