Thoughts on SDA, by Jaxin

From issue #1 of our Monthly Connection, Sept 2025

Sherwood Dance Academy is very welcoming to all of their students. All of the teachers help students get better at doing what they love: dancing. I have gotten so much better at dance from the age of 2 to the age of 11. The studio has a range of 2 to 60 year old students taking classes. When I first joined the dance studio, I thought it was just a dance studio. But after a little while, I realized that it was a whole entire community of dancers and teachers.

When I first started classes, I was in my mom, Miss Kimberly‘s, Acro/Jazz two year-old class. I wanted to be the one to control the class. I led other dancers to the windows in the middle of Miss Kimberly’s teaching, and eventually got kicked out of the class. Over the years, I took jazz, acro, ballet, tap, hip-hop, lyrical and Showstoppers.

I love dancing because it is an amazing way to express myself and my feelings, and it is for a good cause—Every spring, the Showstoppers I dance with, host a fundraiser for local people, businesses and charities. It makes me feel great that I am doing something that I love at the same time that I am helping other people out.

Every month there is a different empowering theme and the September theme is Acts of Kindness. Every month you get a different worksheet about the theme. You turn the worksheets in at the office and you get a prize. I think that these are good themes! Acts of Kindness is a very good way to show other people you care.

I feel very lucky and grateful to be a part of this amazing community. Happy 2026 dance year!
