May 2026 Monthly Memo
Staying Informed
Can you believe we’re just 6.5 weeks away from Recital Day?! There’s a lot happening this month, so please take a few minutes to read through everything carefully and stay up to date on recital information.
If you have questions, your first stop should be our Recital 2026 page. The password can be found in the email that linked you to this post. If you don’t see your question answered there, don’t hesitate to reach out at hello@sherwooddance.com or stop by the office. We want you to feel informed, prepared, and confident heading into dress rehearsals and recital.
Connecting
Our mission at SDA is Empowering Students and Community Through Dance and this month our focus is on Connecting with Others!
Connecting with others is an essential part of human existence, and it is one of the most important skills we can develop. It’s how we build meaningful relationships, create a sense of community, and find support and inspiration. Connecting with others requires us to be open, empathetic, and willing to engage with those around us.
Watch for our Connecting with Others worksheet this month. Once your dancer completes it, they can bring it to the office and pick a prize from our treasure box!
The Final Countdown to Recital
As we head into the final weeks of the season, please make attendance a priority. Consistent attendance helps dancers feel confident and prepared—and it also supports the entire class as they work together as a team.
Recital Tickets
Recital tickets go on sale today!
As part of your inclusive tuition, each dancer receives one ticket per performing class for their family. Be sure to stop by the office to pick yours up.
Your account must be up to date to receive your inclusive ticket. Families with accounts that are not current will need to pay June tuition before tickets can be released.
Final Makeup Lessons
If you have any remaining makeup lessons (up to 4 per class per year), they must be completed by May 16th. We are not able to offer makeup lessons after this date or during June, as all classes will be fully focused on recital routines.
Dress Rehearsals
Dress rehearsals will be held at Newberg High School between 4:00–7:30pm, Monday through Thursday, June 8th–11th. The studio will be closed for regular classes the entire week of June 9th. Please plan ahead for potential rush hour traffic when traveling to Newberg.
✨ Dancers will rehearse in costume ✨
Check the Recital 2026 page for more details about tickets and rehearsal schedule!
Parent Appreciation Week: May 4th-9th
We appreciate all the grownups at SDA for helping foster the art of dance in their family. At SDA we call the adults in our dancer's lives their 'grownup', because a 'parent' can come in many forms - moms, dads, step-parents, grandparents, foster parents, aunts, uncles, guardians, and nannies. Thank you grownups for being an important part of our SDA Family!
During Parent Appreciation Week, we invite you to come about 5 minutes early to watch your dancer practice their recital dance. While you’re here, be sure to stop by the office for a small treat and gift as our way of saying thank you. 💜
Disney Week: May 11th-16th
During Disney Week, dancers are invited to dress up as their favorite Disney character! Just be sure outfits are still dance-appropriate and safe for movement.
Extended Memorial Day Weekend: May 22nd-25th
The studio will be closed Friday, May 22nd through Monday, May 25th for an extended Memorial Day weekend. There will be no classes during this time.
Enjoy the long weekend!
All my best,
Liana MacFarlane
